Early Career mentors offer advice on teaching, emotional support, and help navigate school cultures.
Who are we looking for?
- Fellows of the Academy for Teachers are eligible. (You are considered an Academy Fellow if you have completed a master class).
- Grades K–12 special education and English/ELA teachers from New York City public, charter, or independent schools.
- Teachers with roughly ten years or more of classroom experience.
- Educators with an interest in giving young professionals the community, confidence, and skills they need to stay in the profession.
- Teachers of color are particularly encouraged to apply.
What are a mentor’s commitments?
- An orientation in September
- A welcome happy hour
- Six after-school sessions (mentoring hour + workshop or panel discussion) with dinner included
- Either lead an after-school workshop or join a panel discussion
- One ECF master class of your choosing (free of charge to attend)
- One excursion with mentees and/or fun community-building activity
- Two online debriefing sessions, one in-person and one online
- A farewell celebration in May or early June
How do we choose mentors?
- We'll select mentors, whose grade levels, experience, and backgrounds best align with the Fellows accepted to the Early Career Fellowship.
