Early Career Mentor Application

Early Career mentors offer advice on teaching, emotional support, and help navigate school cultures.


Who are we looking for?

  • Only Fellows of the Academy for Teachers are eligible/
  • Grades K–12 special education and English/ELA teachers from New York City public, charter, or independent schools
  • Teachers with roughly ten years or more of classroom experience.
  • Educators with an interest in giving young professionals the community, confidence, and skills they need to stay in the profession
  • Teachers of color are particularly encouraged to apply.

What are a mentor’s commitments? 

  • Two after-school orientation sessions in September
  • A welcome happy hour
  • Six after-school sessions (workshop + mentoring hour) with dinner included
  • Either lead an after-school workshop or join a panel discussion
  • One ECF master class of your choosing (free of charge to attend) 
  • One fun community-building activity
  • Three online debriefing sessions
  • A farewell dinner in May

How do we choose mentors? 

  • We'll select mentors, whose grade levels, experience, and backgrounds best align with the Fellows accepted to the Early Career Fellowship.
