Early Career Mentor Application

Early Career mentors offer advice on teaching, emotional support, and help navigate school cultures.

Who are we looking for?

Only Fellows of the Academy for Teachers are eligible/
Grades K–12 special education and English/ELA teachers from New York City public, charter, or independent schools
Teachers with roughly ten years or more of classroom experience.
Educators with an interest in giving young professionals the community, confidence, and skills they need to stay in the profession
Teachers of color are particularly encouraged to apply.

What are a mentor’s commitments?

Two after-school orientation sessions in September
A welcome happy hour
Six after-school sessions (workshop + mentoring hour) with dinner included
Either lead an after-school workshop or join a panel discussion
One ECF master class of your choosing (free of charge to attend)
One fun community-building activity
Three online debriefing sessions
A farewell dinner in May

How do we choose mentors?

We'll select mentors, whose grade levels, experience, and backgrounds best align with the Fellows accepted to the Early Career Fellowship.

We are only considering Fellows for mentor opportunities.

Mentor Agreement

Mentors will participate in the following events:

If selected, I commit to fulfilling the responsibilities of a mentor outlined above.
In exchange, The Academy for Teachers will provide a $1,300 honorarium.
